Today, it’s well known that people care not only about the health of their teeth but also their appearance. That’s why aesthetic dentistry offers various solutions—from teeth whitening to reshaping your smile with veneers. But what exactly are veneers? Veneers are thin shells placed on the front surface of the teeth to change their shape, size, and color.

How Are Veneers Different from Crowns?

Unlike crowns and bridges, which are made when a tooth is missing or broken, veneers are used to transform healthy teeth into an aesthetically ideal row. Depending on the irregularities that need to be corrected, the front surface of the tooth may or may not require reshaping. This is also a key difference compared to crowns, which require more extensive reduction of each tooth.

What Types of Veneers Exist?

Veneers can be made from composite (white filling material) or ceramic.

Composite veneers are a quick and affordable solution, made in a single visit directly in the patient’s mouth. Their downside is that over time, they may change color due to the food and drinks we consume. A new and much more advanced type of these veneers is Edelweiss veneers – pre-fabricated veneers that can be fully customized to the shape, size, and shade the patient desires.

As the name suggests, ceramic veneers are made of ceramic material and require a longer production time. After partial tooth reduction, an impression is taken and sent to a technician who creates the veneers. They retain their color permanently but are significantly more expensive.

What Can Be Corrected with Veneers?

Veneers can be used to correct the shape, color, and size of teeth. They can also address misaligned teeth or gaps between teeth.

When Are Veneers Not Recommended?

Veneers cannot be made if there is poor oral hygiene or gum inflammation. It is also important to assess whether your bite allows veneers to be placed properly, so they don’t break later. If you’re not a good candidate for veneers, other options like ceramic crowns or orthodontic treatment may be more suitable.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

The lifespan of veneers greatly depends on the patient’s habits. Bad habits like smoking, consuming dark-colored drinks, and poor hygiene negatively impact their durability. Nail biting or similar behaviors can also lead to chipping. Under good conditions and depending on the material chosen, veneers typically last between 5 and 10 years.

Edelweiss Veneers – The Best of Both Worlds

Edelweiss veneers combine the advantages of both composite and ceramic veneers. They are quick to produce and more affordable than ceramic veneers. On the other hand, thanks to their production method, they are long-lasting and retain their appearance, unlike veneers made from filling materials.

These are factory-made shells, created using laser technology. Due to the way they are manufactured, they offer an ideal look and long durability. The fact that they are factory-made does not mean you’ll have a factory-looking smile. On the contrary, this advanced technology allows for the customization of each veneer to fit the unique shape and size of every patient’s tooth.

What Does the Process Look Like?

The first dental visit includes a consultation, examination, and assessment of whether the desired result is achievable in your case. During this visit, an impression is taken to prepare the veneers to fit the shape and size of your teeth. The second visit is also the final one—when the veneers are placed and you leave the dental office with a new smile.
