Metal-based, skeletal, or Wironit dentures are partial dentures used to replace multiple teeth on one or both sides of the jaw.
This type of denture is attached to the existing teeth, which must be healthy and have special crowns or bridges on them. This type of tooth replacement is also called a combined restoration.
When are Wironit Dentures Made?
This type of metal-based denture is made for patients who have lost several of their teeth and cannot replace them with fixed restorations, such as bridges, due to the arrangement of their remaining teeth. This often happens in patients who still have their front teeth but are missing their molars and premolars.
Wironit dentures have a metal base (or skeleton) that is custom-made for each patient. The denture is then constructed on the metal framework using the same material (acrylic) as other types of dentures.
The most important aspect of this type of tooth replacement is that the metal framework should not rest directly on natural teeth, which must be protected by crowns or bridges. This also ensures a secure connection between the denture and the teeth, preventing the denture from moving.
Advantages of Wironit Dentures

The following advantages make skeletal dentures a more comfortable, functional, and durable solution compared to plastic partial dentures:
- Greater stability and strength,
- Thinner and lighter structure,
- Less coverage of the palate,
- Better attachment to the teeth,
- Durability,
- Better distribution of chewing forces,
- Aesthetics,
- Less gum irritation.
