What are emergency dental interventions?
Providing first aid in dentistry usually refers to situations where there is a sudden deterioration in a person’s oral health. The main symptom that indicates an emergency is the appearance of swelling in the oral cavity or on the face. This is a condition that requires quick action to prevent the swelling from spreading. In addition, there is, of course, the sudden onset of severe pain, as well as injuries in the area of the oral cavity.
What qualifies as emergency dental interventions?
Situations in which you should seek dental help as soon as possible include:
- Swelling in the mouth and facial area,
- Severe pain that does not subside with analgesics,
- Injury in the facial area, such as from a fall, blow, or car accident,
- Significant bleeding following a dental procedure.
During first aid, it is necessary to conduct an examination and take an X-ray. You should also mention if you have taken any medications that day or if you have any allergies. Pregnant women must inform the dentist if they are pregnant or suspect they might be.
