Snoring and bruxism
Silensor Sl – anti-snoring device

Snoring occurs during sleep when the lower jaw of the snoring person takes a backward position, reducing the airflow. This condition causes the soft palate to vibrate and the person snores.

In obstructive sleep apnea, breathing stops for a few seconds during sleep due to a narrowing of the upper airway. It repeats several times during the night and results in decreased oxygen concentration in the blood.

Due to the lack of air movement and frequent awakenings during the night, the affected person feels tired and sleepy the next day. Cardiovascular disease can also be a result of these conditions.

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are successfully treated as part of dental treatment.

What is Silensor?

Silensor is an oral appliance that prevents malpositioning of the lower jaw. During sleep, it fixes the jaw in its forward position, allowing unobstructed airflow through the upper airway.

The device is worn during sleep and provides better sleep quality for people suffering from snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, as well as for their partner.

How is Silensor manufactured?

Silensor is made on the basis of impressions of the patient’s upper and lower jaw and is individual for everyone.

Can the use of this device ultimately lead to healing?

This device works symptomatically, which means that the person cannot be cured. It helps only during the time it is worn, i.e. during sleep. Data from the German manufacturer Erkodent indicate that 80% of patients who wear Silensor regularly experience symptom relief.

Is it possible for all patients to wear Silensor?

There are certain indications and contraindications in the medical and dental sense. First, it is important to determine the cause of snoring or if there are any obstructions in the upper airway.

In the dental field, it is necessary that the patient has his own teeth or crowns and bridges so that Silensor cannot move during sleep.

It is not possible to make this device if a person has removable dentures.

How is the patient accustomed to wearing Silensor?

The organism needs a few days to get used to sleeping with a foreign body in the mouth. Patients are advised to place the appliance in the oral cavity before going to bed to get used to the new position of the lower jaw.

How is Silensor maintained?

In the morning, the appliance must be cleaned with a toothbrush and toothpaste and dried so that it is clean and ready for the next application.

Bruxism

Bruxism is a condition in which patients grind or clench their teeth. The problem is that patients themselves are not aware of it. Unpleasant grinding noises at night usually disturb the partner, and this is what brings the patient to the dentist.

Here at Dr. Bede’s dental office, we make a silicone splint (night guard) for each patient individually. This splint prevents teeth from grinding and unpleasant noises. It also protects the teeth and surrounding tissues from damage.
