In daily practice, we have found that many patients are not aware of the importance of using the interdental brush. However, it is never too late to start a good habit. The interdental brush, as the name suggests, is used for cleaning the spaces between the teeth. A regular toothbrush cannot reach these interdental spaces. It is very important to clean them because tooth decay is especially common in these places. These toothbrushes are also used for the hygiene of crowns and bridges, as well as for patients with fixed orthodontic appliances.

Your dentist will help you determine the size of brush you need. The size depends on the arrangement of the teeth and the size of the interdental spaces. There is a wide range of different sizes and shapes of toothbrushes. It takes some time to get used to using this brush. Once you master it, you will not think of brushing your teeth without it.

How to use an interdental brush?

After brushing your teeth with a regular brush, while you still have a little toothpaste in your mouth, perform interdental brushing between every two teeth. It is enough to do this once a day, preferably before going to bed. It takes time to learn how to easily go between your teeth. Sometimes your gums will bleed, but that should not stop you from continuing to use these brushes. In time, you will master this technique and remove the bacteria between your teeth, and the bleeding will stop.

Floss between teeth where there is not enough room for an interdental brush. In places where there is enough room, an interdental brush is more effective than floss. Ask your dentist to demonstrate the use of interdental brushes and you will easily be able to change your current tooth brushing habits.
